Chaos at Monaco GP: New Pit Stop Rule Faces Harsh Criticism

The 2025 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix at Circuit de Monte Carlo ended with Lando Norris taking the checkered flag ahead of Charles Leclerc, but the post-race discourse was dominated by fan outrage over the new two mandatory pit stop rule.

On social media, many fans labeled the race a “disaster” for the sport, criticizing how the regulation influenced race strategy and tempo.

“Before the race, I thought the idea of two mandatory pit stops was great. But the way the race developed was a disaster for the sport,” one fan wrote on X.

Artificial Drama Overshadows Real Racing

While moments like the intense hairpin duel between Gabriel Bortoleto and Kimi Antonelli added excitement, the race was heavily affected by defensive tactics. Notably, Max Verstappen held up several cars while running on worn tires, leading to a lackluster and “unsporting” spectacle, according to many observers.

The controversial rule was originally proposed by Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and received backing from Red Bull’s Christian Horner during the Formula 1 Commission meeting in February 2025.

Ferrari Struggles as McLaren Dominate Standings

As the dust settles, Ferrari continues to trail in the Constructors’ Championship, sitting in fourth place with just 142 points. McLaren, bolstered by Norris’ win, now tops the table with 319 points.

In the Drivers’ Standings, Oscar Piastri remains in the lead with 161 points, followed by Leclerc (79 points) and Norris climbing fast.
