Mohamed Salah Reveals He Nearly Joined Saudi Pro League

Mohamed Salah revealed that he was involved in serious negotiations with Saudi Pro League officials — before ultimately deciding to extend his contract with Liverpool.

In an interview with On Sport TV Egypt after receiving his third FWA Footballer of the Year award, Salah explained his strong relationship with the Saudi Pro League representatives.

“It was a great opportunity for me. If I hadn’t renewed my contract with Liverpool, it could have happened. My relationship with SPL officials is very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious,” Salah said.

The Egyptian forward spoke about the long negotiation process with Liverpool, saying that fan support played a crucial role in his decision to stay until 2027.

Salah also compared the coaching styles of Arne Slot and Jürgen Klopp, noting more frequent communication with Slot, though he still appreciates Klopp’s accomplishments with the club.

This season, Salah became the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and helped Liverpool secure their second league title since he joined the club eight years ago.
