Miedema and Mead: Life Partners to Face Off in Women’s Euro

Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead — partners in life — will face each other on the field when Netherlands meets England in a crucial Women’s European Championship match in Zurich.

After scoring her 100th goal for the Dutch national team in a 3-0 victory over Wales — Miedema now prepares for a unique challenge against her partner. The pair who played together at Arsenal for seven years parted ways after Miedema joined Manchester City.

“We have a rule that we can talk about anything except this match,” Miedema revealed during a press conference. “Tomorrow we won’t be friends on the pitch for a while.”

This match becomes particularly crucial for England following their defeat to France. Dutch coach Andries Jonker will face former Netherlands coach Sarina Wiegman who now manages England.

“We are friends, and you want the best for your friends,” said Jonker. “But we also understand that when we play against each other, we want to beat each other. Sorry Sarina, but that’s football.”
