Michele Pirro, Ducati‘s test rider, has been a key witness to the Borgo Panigale team’s—transformation over more than a decade making vital contributions to their bike’s technical evolution.

“When I arrived, Ducati was a refuge for riders who couldn’t find a seat,” Pirro told MotoSan, recalling the team’s situation when he joined about 13 years ago.

Significant changes began after Gigi Dall’Igna‘s arrival — through technical projects developed over years until establishing Ducati as the paddock’s benchmark.

“We have brought back great champions like Marquez who were no longer competing,” added Pirro, referring to Marc Marquez, who previously experienced difficult times with Honda.

After joining satellite team Gresini for this season, Marquez has been confirmed to continue his journey with Ducati for next season — a surprising decision considering Jorge Martin was predicted as a candidate to become Francesco Bagnaia‘s teammate.

The decision to retain Marquez reflects Ducati‘s confidence in his resurgence and experience. His performances with Gresini have revitalized his career, and the move signals a strategic shift as Ducati—balances proven talent with internal competition for the factory seat.
