Messi scores spectacular goal, Inter Miami makes Club World Cup history

Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to a historic 2-1 victory over FC Porto in the Club World Cup match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta.

FC Porto took the lead through Samu Aghehowa’s penalty in the first half — but Inter Miami bounced back in the second half with goals from Telasco Segovia and a stunning free kick from Messi.

“This is an important victory that we must enjoy. We showed that we want to compete against a good team,” Messi told DAZN.

The victory marked new history — Inter Miami became the first CONCACAF club to defeat a European team in FIFA international club competition.

“Messi is the player who leads the way we compete. In terms of football, what else can I add? He’s the best player ever,” said coach Javier Mascherano.

Inter Miami now has four points in Group A, level with Palmeiras at the top of standings. Both teams will meet in the final group match — where a draw would be enough for Inter Miami to advance to the round of 16.
