Messi Misses MLS All-Star Training, Match Status Uncertain

According to reports from Austin, Texas, Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba were notably absent from Monday’s first training session with the MLS All-Star team, raising questions about their availability for the high-profile clash against the Liga MX All-Stars.

MLS All-Star head coach and Austin FC manager Nico Estévez addressed the situation diplomatically:

Leo is more a question for the league and his club. I simply coach the players they give me. Having the best player in history is something very important for everyone.”

An unexplained absence — without a verified medical reason — could potentially trigger a one-match suspension, which would affect Inter Miami’s upcoming league match against FC Cincinnati.

Adding to the All-Star storyline, Nashville SC forward Sam Surridge, who is joint-top scorer in MLS alongside Messi with 18 goals, shared his excitement:

“It is very unique. You get to play with some really good players. Training yesterday was brilliant, getting to know new teammates.”

The upcoming MLS All-Star Game marks the 29th edition of the event. The MLS All-Stars have won two of the last three matchups against Liga MX, although the Mexican side earned a commanding 4-1 victory in last year’s contest.
