Mercedes Reintroduces New Rear Suspension for Austrian GP

Mercedes Reintroduces New Rear Suspension for Austrian GP

According to Formula1.com, Mercedes has decided to reintegrate the rear suspension package previously introduced at the Emilia Romagna GP — an effort to address the surface overheating issues affecting the W16 car’s rear tires.

Following an underwhelming debut in Imola, the team opted to shelve the revised geometry for the Monaco and Spanish circuits — a decision made to gather more comprehensive comparative data.

“We brought the new rear geometry for that particular problem we had, the rear surface overheating,” explained Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal.

While there’s no conclusive evidence that the new suspension contributed to George Russell’s victory and Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s maiden podium in Canada, the team remains optimistic about this development direction.

The upcoming Austrian GP will present a greater challenge — with ambient temperatures predicted to reach 30°C, coupled with the Red Bull Ring’s high-load corner characteristics — will test the effectiveness of the new suspension package in managing the C3-4-5 tire compounds.
