Mercedes dominates Canadian GP, Wolff remains cautious about team performance

According to Formula1.com, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff maintains a cautious approach despite his team’s commanding victory at the Canadian GP in track conditions reaching 50 degrees.

George Russell showed dominance from practice sessions through to defeating Max Verstappen for pole position — followed by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in third. His teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, also marked his best achievement by securing his first podium finish.

“We were dominant with 50 degrees of track temperature. We’ve had some things changing on the car and a new rear suspension. I’m really happy with how the team managed that, but we need to look at the track layout,” said Wolff.

The success in Montreal is linked to new rear suspension geometry introduced at Imola — temporarily removed due to correlation issues before being redeployed in Canada to aid tire management.

Wolff emphasized that Montreal circuit characteristics — lacking high-speed corners and featuring smoother asphalt — played a crucial role in their success. He added that different challenges await at upcoming circuits throughout the summer season.
