Megawati Hangestri shines in Korea, Proliga teams become cautious

The impressive performance of Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi in the Korean Volleyball League with Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks — has made her name increasingly respected in Indonesian volleyball.

The team, that previously only managed to finish in mid-table has now transformed into a strong title contender thanks to the contribution of the player nicknamed Megatron in the 2024-2025 season.

Before venturing to Korea, Megawati had already proven her quality in domestic competition — recording Proliga runner-up achievements with Pertamina in 2019 and 2023, and winning the championship with Jakarta BIN.

This season, Megawati joined Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk Indonesia at the final four stage, while her former team Pertamina now relies on United States national team spiker — Jordan Thompson, who has collected Olympic gold and silver medals.
