Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi has written her name in Korean Volleyball League history as the first Indonesian player to compete in the league.

The presence of this 25-year-old player initially raised doubts — given the limited exposure of the Indonesian women’s volleyball team in the international arena, which was mainly confined to SEA Games and SEA V League tournaments.

Megawati also pioneers as the first hijab-wearing athlete to play in the South Korean volleyball league — an achievement that adds uniqueness to her career journey.

Defying all doubts, the Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks star has proven her quality — becoming a central figure in her team’s playing scheme.

Her impact extends beyond the court, as she has inspired a growing fan base in South Korea—and brought greater attention to Indonesian volleyball. Megawati‘s successful adaptation and consistent performances underscore—her role as a trailblazer for future Southeast Asian athletes aiming to compete at the highest levels abroad.
