Mees Hilgers ready to leave FC Twente after 14 years

Mees Hilgers — FC Twente defender who has been with the club since 2011 — is reportedly ready to leave after his position became threatened by a new signing.

This season, Hilgers has made 25 appearances with the first team — contributing one goal and one assist in the Dutch League.

Hilgers’ situation has changed after FC Twente brought in new defender Stav Lemkin — several clubs have already begun approaching to secure his services.

“He’s not the best there,” said Dutch pundit Leon ten Voorde who suggests this is the right time for Hilgers to seek new challenges.
