Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO, announced the British sports car manufacturer’s plans to return to Le Mans 24 Hours with a Hypercar program in 2027, according to McLaren‘s official statement.

McLaren will partner with Italian constructor Dallara — the company that has developed the Cadillac V-Series.R and BMW M Hybrid V8. The engine is expected to be based on the 120-degree twin-turbo V6 architecture from the Artura car.

McLaren‘s presence in the top tier of endurance racing marks 30 years since their historic Le Mans victory with the McLaren F1 GTR. After that win, the team continued competing until 1998, with their best result being second place in 1997.

Currently, McLaren has returned to Le Mans in the LMGT3 class with the 720S GT3 Evo. In the Hypercar division—they will become the 11th manufacturer to join — following Genesis in 2026 and Ford, who will also start their program in 2027.

“We’re back,” said Brown in his brief statement.

This announcement signals a major commitment from McLaren—to top-level endurance racing and strengthens the Hypercar class’ global appeal. With multiple manufacturers joining the grid—the 2027 season is expected to be one of the most competitive and diverse in modern Le Mans history.
