McLaren boss responds to Piastri’s team order request at British GP

Andrea Stella, McLaren team principal, has responded to Oscar Piastri’s request for team order consideration after receiving a penalty at the British GP — it poses no issues for him.

Piastri received a 10-second penalty after being deemed to brake erratically behind the safety car on lap 21 — an action that forced Max Verstappen to take evasive measures. Through team radio, Piastri suggested switching positions with teammate Lando Norris.

“I don’t think the penalty before was very fair. I know it’s a big question, but if you don’t think it was fair either, I think we should swap back and race,” said Piastri.

Stella explained that the team always encourages their drivers to express opinions — they prefer drivers who speak up rather than keeping things to themselves. McLaren decided to maintain the order after the transition to slick tires, with Norris eventually finishing ahead by six seconds.
