The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced that Kylian Mbappé will serve a one-match suspension following his red card against Alavés.

The Disciplinary Committee opted for the minimum punishment after considering the referee’s report — which stated the foul occurred while challenging for the ball.

Mbappé was sent off in the 38th minute after a VAR review for a high tackle on midfielder Antonio Blanco during Madrid‘s 1-0 victory. This marks his first red card since joining Madrid last summer.

Kylian isn’t a violent player, he’s apologized and is aware of his mistake,” said Davide Ancelotti, the Madrid coach’s son. “It’s clearly a red card challenge, and he’s faced the consequences.”

The French national team striker will miss this weekend’s match against Athletic Club but will be available for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
