Max Holloway makes history as first UFC BMF title defender

Max Holloway wrote a new chapter in UFC history at UFC 318 in New Orleans — becoming the first fighter to successfully defend the BMF (Baddest Mother Fighter) title.

In the trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier, Holloway showed dominance to secure his victory. This fight held special significance as it marked Poirier’s final octagon appearance before retirement.

Before this historic win, Holloway had suffered two defeats against Poirier:

  • First-round triangle armbar submission at UFC 143 about 13 years ago
  • Unanimous decision at UFC 236 six years ago

The fighter nicknamed “Blessed” claimed the BMF title after defeating Justin Gaethje with a dramatic last-second KO at UFC 300 last year. This victory improved Holloway’s record to 26-8, with four wins in his last three fights.
