Mauricio Souza reveals player criteria for Persija Jakarta next season

Mauricio Souza, the new Persija Jakarta coach, has outlined his vision for building the team for Liga 1 2025/2026 — his main focus is not just assembling a squad, but finding players with strong character.

The Macan Kemayoran team is currently in the process of team formation — having only confirmed three foreign players who will stay: Carlos Eduardo, Ryo Matsumura, and Gustavo Almeida.

In developing their local squad, Persija has only secured the services of Eksel Runtukahu as their newest recruit — still leaving five foreign player slots to be filled for next season’s competition.

“We’re not just building a team, but looking for players who are ready to work hard and fully commit to Persija,” said Souza.
