Matt Turner Officially Joins Lyon from Nottingham Forest

According to ESPN, Ligue 1 club Lyon has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of goalkeeper Matt Turner valued at $9.1 million. The 30-year-old will join his compatriot Tanner Tessmann at the French club.

Turner’s future at Lyon remains uncertain — given that their first-choice keeper, Lucas Perri, has featured in 45 matches across all competitions this season.

US national team coach Mauricio Pochettino previously expressed concerns about Turner’s limited playing time.

“We’ve spoken with him and told him that for the future, in the next year, he needs to find a way to compete every week,” said Pochettino.

Turner’s career journey has been unique — starting from Fairfield University before joining New England Revolution in 2016. His achievements continued to rise until he was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year 2021.

After stints at Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, Turner spent this season on loan at Crystal Palace with just four appearances in cup competitions. The New Jersey native has earned 51 caps for the US national team, including four matches at the 2022 World Cup.
