Matias Almeyda appointed as new Sevilla manager with three-year contract

Matias Almeyda has been officially appointed as Sevilla’s new manager with a three-year contract — ending a turbulent period for the club that nearly faced relegation last season.

The Argentine coach has history with Sevilla — he represented the club for one season in 1996 before continuing his career in Italy with Lazio, Parma, and Inter Milan.

Prior to joining Sevilla, Almeyda achieved success with AEK Athens by securing a domestic double in his first season. He previously managed San Jose Earthquakes in MLS after starting his coaching career at River Plate.

This appointment follows a dramatic season for Sevilla — the club barely avoided relegation by one point, dismissed Garcia Pimienta in April, and faced an incident where fans stormed the team’s training facility.
