Massive Crash Mars NASCAR Xfinity Race After Weather Delay

The NASCAR Xfinity race in Atlanta experienced a 90-minute delay due to lightning — racing resumed with five laps remaining in the first stage.

Tension following the lengthy pause triggered a major incident — Jesse Love attempted an aggressive outside maneuver to pass Sam Mayer for the race lead. Mayer quickly defended his position, Love tried to return to his line but Nick Sanchez was already there.

Love spun in the middle of the pack and triggered a massive collision damaging at least ten cars. Drivers involved included:

  • Ryan Sieg
  • Sammy Smith
  • Sheldon Creed
  • Justin Allgaier
  • Katherine Legge
  • Jeb Burton
  • Christian Eckes
  • Anthony Alfredo
  • Patrick Staropoli

Six drivers were forced to retire, though all were cleared after examination at the infield care center.

“Just frustrated,” said Creed after leaving the care center. “I feel like I’ve lost count on how many times we’ve been crashed this year… we had a car capable of winning tonight.”

Taylor Gray won the first stage under caution.
