According to ESPN, Javier Mascherano praised his team’s cohesion after Inter Miami defeated Montreal 4-2 at Chase Stadium — despite losing three players to injury in the first half.

Gonzalo Luján and Jordi Alba were forced off with muscle injuries, while Tomás Avilés, who replaced Luján, also suffered an ankle injury following a collision and was substituted at halftime.

“For Gonzalo and Jordi, it’s a muscular issue that we need to examine over the next few days. For Avilés, his ankle was swollen after being stepped on. Maybe he could have continued, but we didn’t want to take the risk,” said Mascherano.

Inter Miami are set to face Columbus Crew this weekend with a depleted squad. Several players including Yannick Bright, David Ruiz, Drake Callender, and Baltasar Rodríguez remain unavailable.

Ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in mid-June, Mascherano has already communicated the need for squad reinforcements to the club’s management — especially after the departures of Robert Taylor and Julian Gressel. Inter Miami are reportedly interested in signing Club América winger Brian Rodríguez.
