According to Newcastle Herald, Mark Milligan — Malaysia national team assistant coach — is in final negotiations to become Newcastle Jets head coach next season.

Peter Cklamovski, who was appointed as Malaysia’s head coach early last year, secured a 2-0 victory over Nepal in his debut match — with goals from Hector Hevel and La’Vere Corbin-Ong.

Newcastle Jets, with five matches remaining this season, have recently dismissed Robert Stanton from the head coach position. Milligan, who earned 80 caps with the Australian national team, has emerged as the primary candidate for the role.

“Jets are close to bringing in a new coach one day after Stanton’s departure,” Newcastle Herald writes. “Newcastle Jets are on the verge of finalizing an agreement with former Socceroos midfielder Mark Milligan for the 2025/26 season.”

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has not yet issued an official statement regarding this situation, while Malaysia still has six matches remaining in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
