Maresca Points Out Strange Atmosphere in Empty Stadium as Chelsea Defeats LAFC

Manager Enzo Maresca expressed concerns about the unusual match atmosphere as Chelsea defeated LAFC 2-0 in the Club World Cup — the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium only drew 22,137 spectators.

Despite ticket prices being reduced to $51 for general admission, some sections in the lower bowl had less than 100 fans — a stark contrast to Atlanta United’s average attendance of 47,000 per game.

“I think the environment was a bit strange, the stadium was almost empty. However, as professionals, we must adapt to any situation and environment,” said Maresca.

LAFC manager Steve Cherundolo responded to the situation by suggesting to wait until the tournament’s conclusion before making comprehensive judgments about attendance issues.

Chelsea now shares the group’s top spot with Flamengo — the Brazilian team also secured a 2-0 victory over Esperance de Tunis in another match.
