Mansfield Town Forward Receives Prison Sentence After Fatal Accident

Lucas Akins, a forward for English League One club Mansfield Town, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison following a tragic accident that resulted in the death of cyclist Adrian Daniel. The sentence was delivered at Leeds Crown Court, concluding a three-year legal process.

According to ESPN, the incident occurred when Akins’ Mercedes collided with Daniel, who was 33 years old, at an intersection near Huddersfield. Daniel succumbed to his injuries 10 days later, passing away as a result of the crash.

Akins, who had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving, also received a one-year driving ban in addition to his prison sentence.

Family’s Reaction and Mansfield Town’s Response

The victim’s wife, Savanna Daniel, expressed her grief following the verdict, stating:

“Three years of hell, three years of avoidance and adding to my trauma has finally ended today with Akins’ sentencing.”

Mansfield Town has issued a statement offering condolences to the Daniel family and revealed that the club is currently evaluating Akins’ future with the team.
