Manchester United and Tottenham Set for Europa League Final Clash

For the first time in six years, the Europa League final will feature two clubs from the same country. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will face off at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao on May 21, 2025.

This match marks the tenth “country derby” final in Europa League history since its inception in 1971. The first such final saw Tottenham defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers in a two-leg format. The last all-English final occurred in 2019, when Chelsea claimed a decisive 4-1 victory over Arsenal in Baku.

Combined with the Champions League, there have been only 18 “country derby” finals in UEFA competitions. The most recent Champions League “country derby” final also involved English clubs, with Chelsea defeating Manchester City 1-0 in Porto in 2021.

The upcoming final in Bilbao will add to the long list of intense battles between clubs from the same country on the European stage — a rare occasion that always brings unique rivalry and prestige.
