Manchester United have identified Liam Delap as their primary target to strengthen their attacking line this summer — the Ipswich Town striker is expected to be available for a transfer fee of around £40 million.

The 22-year-old striker has shown impressive form in his debut Premier League season — scoring 12 goals in 30 appearances for newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

United prefer Delap over other targets including Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Victor Osimhen who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

“Big clubs will be looking at him because I think he’s got something about him,” Alan Shearer told Betfair. “He’s better than anything Man Utd have got up front.”

United’s attacking performance this season has been disappointing — scoring only 37 goals in 31 league matches, with their main striker Rasmus Højlund managing just three league goals.

United manager Ruben Amorim seeks a striker with physical presence and ball retention abilities — characteristics that match Delap’s style which has been proven in the Premier League.
