According to ESPN, Manchester United have identified Liam Delap as their primary attacking target — ahead of alternatives Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen.

Despite financial constraints under minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United are committed to backing coach Ruben Amorim in the upcoming summer transfer window — with a striker being the top priority.

Delap, who has scored 12 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for Ipswich Town, could be available for £40 million if his team gets relegated. Manchester City holds a matching buyback clause but is unlikely to exercise it following Erling Haaland’s contract extension.

Manchester City will receive 20% of any profit from Delap’s sale by Ipswich. The 22-year-old striker is preferred due to his age, cost, and Premier League experience — compared to Gyökeres, who has a €100 million release clause.

Chelsea are also interested in Delap, with the advantage of having Enzo Maresca — former City academy coach — as their head coach. Liverpool could join the pursuit if Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah leave the club.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United’s pursuit of Delap—could play a crucial role in strengthening their attacking options for the new season. The club will face competition from other Premier League giants, making the battle for Delap one to watch closely.
