Manchester United kicked off their Asian pre-season tour with a disappointing result. Playing at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. “The Red Devils”— suffered a narrow 0–1 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars in a high-profile international friendly match.


Maung Maung Lwin Scores the Winner in the Second Half

The only goal of the match came in the 71st minute, when Maung Maung Lwin—a standout player from Myanmar—exploited a lapse in United’s defense to score the decisive goal.

Despite fielding several top players including Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen, United struggled to break down a disciplined ASEAN defense led by South Korean head coach, Kim Sang-sik.


Two Indonesian Players Shine in Second Half

Indonesia had reasons to celebrate, as two of its young stars, Kakang Rudianto and Malik Risaldi, featured in the second half under Kim Sang-sik’s direction.

According to a report from ESPN, Kakang impressed with his composure and ability to read the game, contributing significantly to the defensive solidity of the ASEAN All-Stars. Meanwhile, Malik Risaldi had limited touches but was praised for his off-the-ball movement and relentless work ethic.


Early Warning for United Ahead of New Season

This defeat serves as an early warning sign for Manchester United, who are preparing for the 2025/26 season under new manager Rúben Amorim. After a disappointing domestic campaign, the Red Devils will need to regroup and show improvement in the remainder of their 2025 Asia Tour.
