Manchester United Face Striker Dilemma Ahead of New Season

Manchester United — as reported by ESPN — are facing a challenging situation regarding their main striker position ahead of the new season.

Ruben Amorim’s squad has been strengthened with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £135 million transfer fee, but the club is still searching for a pure striker after scoring only 44 goals last season.

Several transfer targets that failed to materialize:

  • Liam Delap
  • Viktor Gyökeres
  • Hugo Ekitike

The team is currently on their pre-season tour in the United States with three strikers — Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Chido Obi. Højlund, who is contracted until 2028, is reportedly attracting interest from Italian clubs, although the 22-year-old prefers to stay.

Other available options include a potential player swap with Chelsea involving Nicolas Jackson and Alejandro Garnacho, or repurposing Mbeumo as a central striker in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
