Manchester City unveils new away kit inspired by 145-year-old history

Manchester City, in partnership with Puma, has unveiled their away kit for the 2025-26 season inspired by the club’s earliest history. The design pays tribute to the heritage of St. Mark’s West Gorton FC — Manchester City’s predecessor.

The club, founded by two church wardens in 1880, initially wore an all-black uniform with a white Christian cross on the chest. The original club was based in Gorton — a Manchester suburb located just miles from today’s Etihad Stadium.

Manuel Akanji, Alex Greenwood, Jess Park, and Vitor Reis were chosen to showcase the new jersey. The modern design maintains the dominant black color, but with minimal metallic silver accents.

Before becoming Manchester City in 1894, the club switched to sky blue jerseys — a color that has since become the club’s primary identity.
