Manchester City Signs Rayan Cherki from Lyon

Manchester City has announced the signing of French international Rayan Cherki from Lyon — for an initial fee of 36 million euros and a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old player just made his international debut for the France national football team against Spain last week — and is now ready to join Pep Guardiola’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in Philadelphia.

“It’s a dream for me. Joining a club like Manchester City and getting the chance to take my career to the next level here is something very special,” said Cherki.

“Everyone knows how good City is — they have been very successful for years. The responsibility to help the team keep winning is something I want to embrace,” he added.

Cherki, who has scored 29 goals in 185 appearances for Lyon, was chosen by City despite interest from other English and German clubs. Manchester City is also reportedly close to signing AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders for 55 million euros.
