Manchester City Fined £1 Million for Delayed Kickoffs

The Premier League has imposed a fine of over £1 million on Manchester City for nine violations of kickoff and restart delay rules last season.

This penalty comes a year after the club paid a similar £2 million fine — indicating repeated breaches of competition regulations.

The longest delays were recorded in matches against West Ham United and Ipswich Town — each lasting 2 minutes and 22 seconds.

The violations occurred in six home games against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, West Ham United, and Newcastle United, plus three away fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Ipswich Town.

The Premier League emphasizes that kickoff and restart timing rules are crucial — ensuring the highest professional standards of competition and broadcast schedule certainty.

Separately, City awaits a verdict on 115 Financial Fair Play violation charges covering the period from 2009 to the 2022-23 season, though the club has consistently denied these allegations.
