Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei face uncertainty ahead of the 2025 Asian Badminton Championships due to internal conflicts.

Internal Rift Threatens Malaysia’s Mixed Doubles Campaign at Asian Championships

The future of Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, is now in doubt as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) convenes a performance task force meeting.

The conflict, reportedly surfacing during All England 2025, led to their early exit and subsequent withdrawal from the Swiss Open and Asian Championships in Ningbo.

According to coach Nova Widianto, the duo has been facing unresolved internal issues.

Tensions peaked when one player deleted their shared photos on social media after the Birmingham tournament, signaling the worsening relationship.

“There are internal issues between the players,” confirmed Datuk V Subramaniam, BAM Acting President.
“Any decision will follow a thorough review from the coaching team.”

Former All England champion Tan Boon Heong has also stepped in, offering to mediate between the players.
