Malaysia faces a complex situation ahead of the Sudirman Cup 2025 — mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, currently ranked fourth in the world, are experiencing internal conflict and have decided to split.

The mixed team championship will take place in Xiamen, China in late April, forcing Malaysia to quickly determine their team composition. Despite their issues, Chen and Toh‘s presence remains crucial for strengthening Malaysia‘s mixed doubles sector.

Malaysia has alternatives with independent pair Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie who hold world rank three, and Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin at rank eleven. However, both pairs failed to make optimal contributions when Malaysia was eliminated in the group phase of the Asian Mixed Team Championships two months ago.

As the Sudirman Cup approaches, Malaysia must address its internal challenges quickly to form a competitive team.

The successful integration of alternative pairings will be key—as they strive to maximize their strengths and build team chemistry to achieve a strong performance in Xiamen.

The coaching staff will need to make strategic decisions to ensure that Malaysia remains a formidable contender in the upcoming championship.
