Malaysian Nixed Doubles Pair Eliminated in Early Round of Asian Championships

Malaysian mixed doubles pair, Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin — suffered a surprising defeat in the round of 32 at the 2025 Asian Championships taking place at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, China.

Coach Nova Widianto deliberately set no specific targets for the world number 11 pair — hoping they would play more freely in this tournament.

“I just hope they can show better results at the Asian Championships, and most importantly, become more consistent,” Nova stated before the tournament began.

Despite winning the first game, Hoo/Cheng ultimately had to acknowledge defeat to the Indian pair, Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto — who played without pressure as fellow unseeded competitors.
