Malaysia U-23 team rejects naturalized players for ASEAN Cup 2025

Ahead of ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 in Indonesia, Nafuzi Zain as Malaysia U-23 national team coach — confirms he will not use naturalized heritage players.

The tournament, previously known as AFF U-23 Cup, will take place at two venues — Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi and Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta from July 15-29, 2025.

“We will only use local players. Many young players have potential, and they need to be given opportunities,” stated Nafuzi Zain to Harian Metro.

The Malaysia U-23 national team coach added — player selection process will be based on character and compatibility with team playing style, and training camp will commence soon.
