Malaysia reaps sweet results from foreign player naturalization program

Following Indonesia’s footsteps, Malaysia is now reaping positive results from their newly implemented foreign player naturalization program. Five newly naturalized players — Facundo Garces, Imanol Machuca, Jon Irazabal, Joao Figueiredo, and Rodrigo Holgado — were immediately trusted in the starting lineup.

In last week’s match against Vietnam, two naturalized players managed to put their names on the scoreboard — Joao Figueiredo scored in the 49th minute and Rodrigo Holgado extended the lead in the 59th minute.

Malaysia’s victory was made complete after La Vere Corbin Ong and Dion Cools also contributed goals in the 67th and 88th minutes — resulting in a decisive 4-0 victory over Vietnam.
