Major crash in early laps of NASCAR Chicago Street Course race

The NASCAR Cup race at Chicago Street Circuit experienced a major incident in its early stages — Carson Hocevar, who started from third position, crashed at Turn 10.

After touching the inside wall, Hocevar’s car lost control and spun in front of the pack of other racers. This triggered a chain reaction crash involving several drivers:

  • Brad Keselowski
  • Daniel Suarez
  • Austin Dillon
  • Todd Gilliland
  • Riley Herbst
  • Will Brown

The track was nearly completely blocked, though some drivers like Ryan Blaney and Ross Chastain managed to squeeze through a narrow gap between the pile-up and concrete wall. The incident forced NASCAR to display the red flag for 16 minutes to clear the track.

This accident also impacts the season’s $1 million bracket tournament — where Hocevar was one of the 16 remaining drivers set to face Tyler Reddick in Chicago.
