Maarten Paes Joins, Indonesia National Team Squad Complete for June Matches

According to Bolasport.com, the Indonesia national team squad is now complete following the arrival of Maarten Paes, who joined the team ahead of their upcoming matches against China and Japan in early June.

Paes, who plays for FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, is expected to provide a solid presence in goal as Indonesia prepares for two critical fixtures in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. His inclusion finalizes the list of players selected by head coach Patrick Kluivert, who is working to ensure the team is fully prepared for the final Group F matches.

Kluivert finalizes squad after key changes

Head coach Patrick Kluivert had previously called up 32 players to attend a training camp in Bali, which served as the core phase of preparation for the upcoming qualifiers. However, several changes had to be made due to injuries and personal circumstances affecting some of the original selections.

Septian Bagaskara was ruled out after suffering an injury during training. In response, the coaching staff brought in Beckham Putra to fill the vacant spot in the squad, especially to maintain attacking balance.

In addition to Septian’s withdrawal, two other players—Sandy Walsh and Eliano Reijnders—also dropped out of the squad. Reijnders chose to remain in the Netherlands to support his wife, who is expecting a child, while Walsh suffered an injury while playing for Yokohama F. Marinos in the Japanese league.

Despite Walsh’s absence, coach Kluivert has opted not to call up a replacement, indicating confidence in the squad’s current defensive depth.

Focus shifts to China and Japan matches

With all changes settled and preparations underway, Indonesia will now focus on its critical matches in early June. The Garuda squad is set to face China on June 6 and Japan on June 11 in the final round of Group F in the second phase of Asian qualifying.

Both matches are crucial, not just for qualification hopes, but also as a barometer of the team’s progress under Kluivert’s leadership.

The complete squad is now training intensively with full focus, aiming to secure positive results and bring pride to Indonesian football fans across the country.
