Luna Esports Honors Late Founder Diogo Jota

Luna Esports (formerly Luna Galaxy) is grieving the loss of its founder and former player, Diogo Jota, who last played for Liverpool in the English Premier League.

The 28-year-old forward died in a traffic accident in Spain yesterday (July 3rd). His brother, Andre Silva, who was in the car with him, also passed away in the crash.

The news prompted immediate condolences from Jota’s teammates, fellow professionals across leagues, and former rivals. Beyond football, it was a devastating blow to Luna Esports, which owes deep gratitude to the Portuguese star since 2021.

In an official social media statement, the Portugal-based organization expressed they are still mourning and thanked both Diogo Jota and Andre Silva for their support.

“This is the most painful news we could ever have to share. It is hard to write, hard to process. Hard because of how it happened, because of the family and friends left behind.

Today, we didn’t just lose two extraordinary friends and human being – we lost our leader and a true esports ambassador, especially EA FC, along with his brother. May peace rest upon your souls, and may you watch over us from above.”

Alongside Luna Esports, other professional European esports athletes shared their grief for the Jota-Silva brothers on social media. Comments came not only from the EA FC community, but also from other popular games like CS2, Dota 2, Rocket League, and PUBG.

Luna Esports players have committed to dedicating their participation in the upcoming EWC 2025 in Saudi Arabia as a tribute to them.
