Luis Enrique praises Botafogo’s defense after PSG’s Club World Cup defeat

Luis Enrique acknowledged Botafogo’s defensive superiority after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) suffered a surprising 0-1 defeat in Group B of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup at Rose Bowl Stadium.

Last season’s Champions League winners — who fielded their best squad including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, Desire Doue, and Kvchicha Kvaratskhelia — failed to break through the Brazilian team’s solid defense.

Igor Jesus‘s lone goal in the 36th minute put Botafogo at the top of the group with six points — despite PSG dominating the match with 16 shots on goal.

“Botafogo has the best defense we’ve faced this season, even better than Inter Milan and Liverpool,” stated Enrique after the match.
