Luca Marini returns to track after serious Suzuka accident

Luca Marini, Honda HRC Castrol rider, is preparing to return to the racing track with a two-day private test at Brno Circuit, Czech Republic — a month after suffering a serious accident in Suzuka, Japan.

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi‘s half-brother experienced a severe incident during Suzuka 8 Hours preparation tests, resulting in multiple serious injuries:

  • Left hip dislocation
  • Left knee ligament damage
  • Sternum fracture
  • Left collarbone fracture
  • Right-side pneumothorax

The incident occurred when Marini — who stands at around 190 cm — was trying to adapt to a motorcycle designed for the shorter Japanese rider Takumi Takahashi. After experiencing difficulties on the first day, Marini requested some modifications for the second day but crashed at Suzuka Circuit’s first turn.

The Italian rider, who is in his second season with Honda HRC, had to spend ten days in a Japanese hospital recovering from his various injuries.
