Luca Marini returns to German MotoGP after serious accident

Luca Marini of Honda HRC Castrol team — has received clearance to return for the 11th round of 2025 German MotoGP after being declared fit to race.

The Italian rider was forced to skip three recent races — GP Aragon, GP Italy, and GP Netherlands — following a serious incident during private testing for the Suzuka 8 Hours event in Japan about one and a half months ago.

“When downshifting at the first corner, the gearbox went into neutral between fourth and third gear. I wasn’t quick enough to pull the clutch lever and saw the wall approaching,” Marini told GPone.com.

“I thought I could slow the bike down with just the brakes, without engine braking, but it wasn’t enough,” he added.

The accident resulted in Marini suffering a bone fracture and pneumothorax — requiring intensive care treatment in Japan. This incident halted Marini’s positive momentum after achieving several top-10 finishes with Honda early in the season.
