Lothar Matthaus Urges Ter Stegen to Leave Barcelona

German football legend Lothar Matthaus has advised Marc-André ter Stegen to leave Barcelona following the club’s latest goalkeeper signing.

Barcelona recently completed the transfer of Joan Garcia from Espanyol for €25 million. The Spanish goalkeeper is expected to become the first-choice keeper for the upcoming season.

Ter Stegen’s position has further weakened after Wojciech Szczesny — the club’s starting goalkeeper in the second half of last season — extended his contract until 2027. This situation leaves ter Stegen as third choice, despite still holding the club captaincy.
