Liverpool to build permanent statue to commemorate Diogo Jota

Liverpool have announced plans to build a permanent statue at Anfield in tribute to Diogo Jota — who died in a car accident with his brother André Silva earlier this month.

The team will wear “Forever 20” emblem on their jerseys and stadium jackets throughout this season. A fan mosaic and moment of silence will be held before the season opener against Bournemouth next month.

Thousands of flower bouquets and various tributes placed outside Anfield have been collected — flowers will be composted for club gardens, while other items will be recycled into parts of the memorial statue.

After consulting with Jota’s family, the club decided to retire number 20 across all team levels. Fans can still print “Diogo J. 20” on jerseys with profits going to a grassroots football program to be created in his name.

Floral tributes will also be laid before pre-season matches in:

  • Hong Kong
  • Tokyo
  • Anfield
