Liverpool teammates mourn Diogo Jota’s tragic death in car accident

The football world was shocked by tragic news — Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva died in a car crash near Zamora, Spain. Police confirmed they were the only occupants in the vehicle.

The funeral will be held at Matriz de Gondomar church — located 33 kilometers from Porto, on Saturday at 10:00 AM local time. Prior to this, a wake will begin Friday at 4:00 PM.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his grief through social media.

“I can’t believe it and don’t want to believe it. He wasn’t just a great player, but an incredible family man. For his family to lose two sons, a husband and a father — it’s simply unimaginable.”

Jordan Henderson, former Liverpool captain now playing for Ajax, was seen with tears while laying flowers outside Anfield stadium. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also shared their profound memories of Jota.

Jota, who married Rute Cardoso just weeks ago, leaves behind three children — the youngest born last year.
