Liverpool mourns: Star player dies in tragic accident in Spain

Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva — victims of a tragic car accident in northern Spain — will be laid to rest at the Matriz de Gondomar church in Portugal.

The accident occurred while they were traveling to Santander port to cross to England — Jota was scheduled to return to Liverpool training early next week.

ESPN sources confirm that Liverpool teammates will fly to Portugal to attend the funeral ceremony. Gondomar — Jota’s birthplace located 33 kilometers from Porto — is where the 28-year-old player started his career.

Condolences have poured in from teammates including Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk. Coach Arne Slot and club owners have also expressed their sympathies.

Liverpool has postponed their preseason training schedule that was due to start next week as a mark of respect.
