Liverpool legend Joey Jones passes away at 70

Joey Jones, Liverpool legend who played for the club in the 1970s, has passed away at age 70 — the news was confirmed by Liverpool on Tuesday.

The tough Welsh defender made 100 appearances for The Reds during his three-year spell — a period decorated with various trophies including two European Cups, one UEFA Cup, and one English league title.

Jones also had successful spells at Wrexham, Chelsea, and Huddersfield Town — along with 72 international caps for Wales national team.

“This morning I lost my best friend and soulmate, Sir Joey, our memories will never fade. Today my heart is broken. Love you Sir Joey RIP. My condolences are with Janice and all the family,” wrote Jones’s club and international teammate Mickey Thomas.

Liverpool issued a brief statement: “The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Joey’s family and friends at this sad time.”
