Liverpool Break Transfer Record with Florian Wirtz Signing

Liverpool announced the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record transfer fee of £116 million — consisting of £100 million initial payment and £16 million in add-ons.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder — who impressed with 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen — signed a five-year contract at Anfield.

“I’m really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. I want to try something completely new by leaving the Bundesliga and joining the Premier League,” said Wirtz.

The Reds beat competition from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to secure the German international’s signature. This becomes Liverpool’s second summer recruitment after previously signing Jeremie Frimpong from the same club.

“I would like to win everything every year! My goal is certainly to defend the Premier League title and go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious,” added Wirtz.
