Liberty Media officially acquires MotoGP, riders welcome positively

The European Commission has granted approval for Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP promoter Dorna — a company that has successfully managed Formula 1 for the past eight years.

Marc Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio expressed their positive views during a press conference at Assen Circuit.

“Liberty Media did very good things in other sports, like Formula 1. I think it’s super good for the championship,” said Marquez.

“We saw what Liberty did with Formula 1. They brought it to a completely new level. Now Formula 1 drivers are like superstars,” added Di Giannantonio.

Maverick Vinales from Tech 3 KTM team emphasized the importance of reaching new generations — particularly young fans who are currently more interested in e-games.

  • Key challenges highlighted by riders:
  • Maintaining MotoGP’s unique atmosphere
  • Converting e-games fans into real racing enthusiasts
  • Balancing development with sport traditions

Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez chose to be more cautious in responding to the ownership change — they want to see concrete steps before making further comments.
