Liberty Media completes MotoGP acquisition for €4.3 billion

Liberty Media has completed the acquisition of 86% stake in Dorna Sports — the MotoGP rights holder — in a €4.3 billion transaction, according to Autosport.

Carmelo Ezpeleta and Enrique Aldama — who serve as CEO and COO of Dorna respectively — maintain 14% ownership of the company. Both will continue their roles in the new management structure.

The management team is strengthened by the addition of Chase Carey and Sean Bratches — two key figures in Formula 1’s transformation. They will work alongside Carlos Ezpeleta who leads the sporting division and Dan Rossomondo who manages the commercial area.

The first board meeting will be held at Dorna’s headquarters in Madrid. The initial transition phase focuses on commercial development — including broadcasting rights, ticket sales, advertising, and sponsorship.

Liberty Media — which acquired Formula 1 eight years ago — now controls the world’s two largest motorsport championships. The company targets significant expansion of MotoGP in the North American market, which is believed to have substantial growth potential.
